| CAUTION
TO MOPED OPERATORS RISK NOTIFICATION |
| Mopeds are not
toys. They must be driven safely and responsibly. Severe injuries and
even death can occur when involved in a moped accident. Unlike a car,
a moped has no airbags, seatbelts, or the mass of the car to protect you.
Your only protection in the event of an accident is your helmet and your
clothing. Even at slow speeds (5-25 mph) you may be severely injured or
even killed if involved in a moped accident. PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING RISKS INVOLVED WITH RIDING A MOPED ON MARTHA'S VINEYARD. This list is not all-inclusive, but meant to represent some of the factors that cause accidents. You may encounter other hazards. Initial each point. |
Most of our roads are very narrow. They often contain sharp turns. |
You will be competing for road space with cars, trucks of all sizes, buses and other vehicles. Traffic can be heavy at times. |
Many of our roads have sand on them. Sand can make it difficult to control or stop your moped and is frequently a cause of accidents. |
Beware of soft shoulders on our roads. If you go off the edge of the pavement, it can be very difficult and dangerous to get back on. |
Moped riders that are tired and/or dehydrated are more likely to have an accident. |
Traveling faster than the 25 mph moped speed limit can increase your chances of having or causing an accident. |
| IF
YOU DO NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE RIDING ON A MOPED, YOU SHOULD NOT BE ON ONE! Ask your rental dealer for other fun and safe ways to enjoy the Island. |
| I
have read and understand the above risks of riding mopeds on Martha's
Vineyard. I understand there may be other hazards as well. |
