Safety
equipment
As part of your rental, we provide safety helmets for you to wear
while traveling on our bikes and mopeds. This is simple and essential
equipment for riding. We do our best to provide you comfortable
headgear and it is your best protection in the event of a mishap.
You should also consider wearing eye protection, meaning safety
glasses or sunglasses. This will help protect your eyes from any
debris or dust blown by our ocean breezes.
Travel at a reasonable rate of speed
Martha's Vineyard is a beautiful place, so we suggest you take it
easy, ride at a nice comfortable speed so you can enjoy the scenery
and avoid situations where excess speed might affect your ability
to control the vehicle. There are numerous curves, hills, and of
course, sand abutting our roads and bikepaths. Be sure to slow down
at these types of areas.
Stop and enjoy the sights
We encourage you to stop and view the Island. This means leaving
the road or bikepath completely so that you keep the throughway
clear for others and for your own safety while stopped. It also
means that while riding you should keep your attention primarily
on the road or path!
Dress warmly
The Vineyard's weather is generally very nice, but the island is
susceptible to ocean breezes which are quite cool. Moped riding
can be particularly chilly, so planning an extra jacket or pants
is a good idea.
